Square Off is a beautiful game about protecting your planet against invasion by… gasp… ALIENS. The story is about aliens that try to invade your planet. Luckily, a mad scientist has figured a way to clone your defense force using dna from a captured alien. You can now fly around and shoot, fire rockets or drop grenades to defeat the alien horde out to get you. Using both thumbsticks to move and aim and the right and left triggers to shoot and select different weapons, this is truly the first really great indie game of 2010.

The graphics in the game are simply fantastic. A lot of work went into this game as far as the graphics go. Even though it looks like each level is relatively similar, they aren’t. Each one is unique to itself and holds many surprises. The characters also are really well done even though you wouldn’t expect to see much from a square blob. But here, the developers have really put in the time as they have programmed in facial expressions etc. into each character to make the game even more fun.

The sound in the game is really quite good as well. The music is not too overwhelming so that it would detract from all the gunshots and explosions not to mention the scream of your little character as he dies.

Multiplayer co-op and deathmatch options for up to 4 players simply add to this games playability and trust me, you’ll need to have more than one person playing for some of the levels or you just won’t make it. The only drawback that I can see to this title is the fact that it doesn’t have online multiplayer. Hopefully the developers might be able to change that at some point in the future. Online would be awesome for this game.

Truly, this is a game that you simply must have for your collection. My review doesn’t really do it justice here. As a matter of fact, I had to force myself to stop playing just to simply write the review. So, go out and get this game, it’s a steal at only 240 MS Points.
